But will it improve the prescription renewal dance?
Only old folks will appreciate this post but it is significant for anyone facing chronic disease and the prescription treatments for them.
I was running out of my main blood pressure medication so I went to my pharmacy website to order a refill and the website said none were available. When I called the local branch office of the prescribing medical practice - see how this is sounding so impersonal and corporate already? They told me I had to contact my pharmacy and have them fax a request for a refill prescription to them!? Well, I already had them on the line. Couldn't they just take a note then? I want ahead and submitted the request anyway hoping there might already be a refill on file, or the pharmacy would contact my doctor for a refill. When I arrived at the pharmacy later that day, they had already contacted the local branch subsidiary office of the prescribing practices office but had not received a response.
I called the pharmacy the next day and they had not yet received anything from the local subsidiary office which is the office of my primary specialist. Today they did say they would take a note and "try to get something to the pharmacy."
Why can't all this be done electronically? I can order anything on earth from Amazon and have it on my porch tomorrow. Why can't the same be true for life essential prescriptions that we must have everyday?
Dr. Watson are you listening?
